Complete these steps before you install the printer software on your computer. Looking for the driver? If you did not already set up the hardware, follow the steps in this document to do so first. But, if you already installed the hardware and are just looking for the driver to download, go to the HP Software and Driver Downloads page. Setting up the printer Follow these steps in order. When you are finished, you can click the appropriate link at the end of this document if you need instructions to install the printer software. note Do not connect a USB cable now. If you plan to use a USB cable to connect the printer to the computer, you will be prompted to connect it at the correct time during the software installation. Step one Check the contents of the box The contents might vary by country/region. See the packaging for a list of items shipped in the box. Step two Unpack the printer Follow these steps to unpack the printer. Remove all tape and packing materials from outside the printer. Figure Remove packing materials from the outside of the printer Lift the printer scanning lid, and then remove all tape and packing materials inside. Lift the carriage access door, and then remove all tape and packing materials inside the printer. caution To avoid injury, make sure the carriage access door is fully raised before removing the tape and packing materials. Jams or paper feed issues might occur. Position the stack of paper in the center of the input tray, and then slide the stack forward until it stops. Adjust the paper width guides so that they rest against the stack of paper. Do not push the guides in so tightly that they bind against the paper.
